İsrail ordusu 1 Nisan Pazartesi günü Suriye’nin başkenti Şam’daki İran Büyükelçiliği yerleşkesini vurarak aralarında Tuğgeneral Muhammed Rıza Zahidi ile Tuğgeneral Muhammed Hadi Hac Rahimi’nin de bulunduğu 13 kişiyi öldürdü. Basında çıkan haberlerden Büyükelçilik binasının bitişiğindeki muhtemelen askeri ataşelik olarak kullanılan bir binanın saat 17:00 civarında hedef alındığı anlaşılıyor. İsrail’in doğrudan İran Büyükelçiliğini hedef almakla ciddi bir eşiği aştığını vurgulamak gerekiyor.

Birleşmiş Milletler Güvenlik Konseyi (BMGK) 25 Mart’ta Gazze’de Ramazan ayı boyunca geçerli olmak üzere acilen ateşkes sağlanmasına yönelik bir tasarıyı kabul etti. Böylelikle BM’nin icra organı olan Güvenlik Konseyi savaşın başladığı 7 Ekim gününden beri ilk kez ateşkes çağrısı yapabilmiş oldu. Ateşkes tasarısına 14 ülke evet oyu verirken, ABD’de veto yetkisini kullanmayarak çekimser kaldı.
